Early Education Program (EEP)

The Yarrabah School Early Education Program accommodates children in the local area that have a developmental delay or disability. Children are referred to the program from paediatricians, maternal health nurses and therapists. Parents can also self-refer to the program. The program is designed to identify each individual child’s learning difficulties or barriers and support the child in developing skills to enable optimal learning.

The Early Education centre runs two four-year-old rooms, one three-year-old room and a playgroup. The children in the four-year-old program attend two days each week, 9am-2.30pm, in the three-year-old program the children attend three half days and the playgroup runs 9.30-10.30am every Friday.

Each room has one special education teacher, a co-educator and support from the therapy team. Teachers use the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework to inform their programming and develop Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for each student. Yarrabah’s experienced therapy team is comprised of speech pathologists, occupational therapists and physical therapists, the therapy team advise on the day-to-day practice in each room, provide support in the development of individual educational plans, resources and strategies.

The Early Education Program prides itself on its family centred and child focussed approach. We recognise the importance of family, along with all professionals working the child, to create an inclusive and collaborative program that caters for each child’s developmental needs.
